Chuck Pagano's Press Conference Talking About Hurricanes And The Movie "Groundhog Day" Was A Goddamn Masterpiece Of Awkwardness
Damn I love Chuck Pagano. Not because he is a great coach or anything. But because he seems like a common man coaching an NFL team. He works for an organization that, outside of lucking into a franchise quarterback, has given him very little help over the years. Plus it’s hard to hate anybody named Chuck to be honest. Save that hate for the Charlies or Charleses of the world. Every time Pagano is on TV during a game, he has that “I forgot to turn the heat off at home and my wife is about to find out and kill me” look on his face.
Dude is relatable as fuck. As someone that saw and loved Groundhog Day in the theaters and is a washed up dad that loooooooves talking weather, that press conference was directly in my wheelhouse and made me love Chucky P even more.
But I’m also not a Colts fan or reporter. Referencing robbing banks and jumping off of your roof is a ballsy move when you are talking to people that have followed the Colts the last 5 seasons or so. You can talk about those scenes and get the polite laughs from people that haven’t seen the movie if you are coaching a 10-1 team that is DEFINITELY going to win the Super Bowl. But if you are the coach of probably the most frustrating team in the NFL over the last half of decade, you should probably stick to the classics instead of the cult classics if you don’t want a room full of crickets chirping during your press conferences.
To be honest, I think the rest of the world is shocked the Colts haven’t broke Chuck Pagano yet. Between their uneven roster, their old GM, and their owner being a bigger wildcard than Charlie Kelly, you have to appreciate Chucky keeping it all together. Any time I have money or a fantasy player on the Colts, I’m ready to blow my brains out by halftime. So even the slightest audible from Cliche City was going to send those damn millennials in the media that don’t appreciate Groundhog Day or weather into a tizzy. I can’t stand by Dudes and Dudettes, but that’s probably just a midwest thing. I just want Chuck to know that us old idiots appreciated what he was trying to say, even if it made absolutely noooooooooo sense to anyone that hasn’t seen one of the most underrated movies in cinematic history.
